Weekly check in--

Not much that is newsworthy this week. I've been working on a sewing project and soon I'll have before and after photos to share.

The weekend weather outlook is promising...high tomorrow 65! Sid is talking about getting the bike out. There were some cardinals playing in our back yard this morning.

More later...

Where is spring?

This week I've actually become whiny about my winter doldrums. Everyone I whine to agrees they are past ready for spring. There are some projects and cleaning I need to do but I don’t want to focus on them because of the lack of sunshine and warmth….excuses I know and my “to do” list is still very long. I know here in the south I can't complain because spring will most likely start peeking out next week and I don't have mounds of snow and ice outside and my house wasn’t leveled from a tornado....ok, I'm blessed so I’m going to look through my photos to find some spring!

Callie

Callie - My little sister's baby girl and the key to our hearts. She started out as a tiny little thing at only 5 lbs 5 oz. Born Nov. 7th, we found out a couple of days later that Daddy had a mass in his lung. During Daddy's illness and loss, Callie was the warm spot in our lives. She is such a good sweet baby and never cries unless she is hungry or has a tummy ache. Callie has the biggest bright eyes and the sweetest smile. During her short life she has spent a lot of time in hospital waiting rooms. If Brooke and Josh came into Daddy's room together his first question was "where is Callie? " and they would assure him she was with Grandma, Aunt Janet or Aunt B. The situation was bittersweet but we all enjoyed those sweet newborn days with Callie because we were together so much and we watched her grow before our eyes. A video of Callie on our phones or a photo on the computer would bring a big smile to Paw Paw's face.

Although it was heartbreaking...this winter our family experienced the true "circle of life".

The day after - Valentine's Day

I am recovering from Valentine's Day. My sister in law's Mom owns a small town flower shop and I've helped out on V-Day for at least 11 of the 13 years she has owned it. It's crazy! They can still deliver to the schools so most kids get a balloon and candy or something. She ordered 400 mylar balloons and we sold them ALL! Wednesday was a 14 hour day and I worked about 5 hours yesterday. Today I am tired and my back is sore! Of course they have over a week of preparing and I'm whining about 2 days. I won't say it is "fun" but it's a whirlwind couple of days and it is enjoyable to hang out with some nice people/family. Of course we sold a lot of roses too and they design some beautiful arrangements.

My husband doesn’t mind me helping because after it’s over I don’t care about getting anything for Valentine’s Day! Well except for dinner out…
Last night - it was pizza delivered…
Tonight - we are going out to the new Italian place in town and both daughters are joining us!

I’m looking forward to visiting with daughter #1 about her trip to San Diego last week.

Happy day after Valentine’s Day!

year in review

  • It's been a year since I started this blog and as you can see I didn't keep it going. I'm going to try and do better this year.

The year 2007 was a big year and it flew by:

  • Feb - Daddy lost his last sister Aunt Leita.
  • April - We prepped and planned then put our house of 11 years on the market and had an offer in a matter of days!
  • May - we moved to our beautiful new home!

  • Summer - We enjoyed our pool, shopped and bought new furniture for the new house. Our youngest daughter graduated college in the spring and started med school in August.

  • Fall - Continued to enjoy the house by entertaining and we celebrated my parent's 30th Anniversary.
  • Nov - My sister had a beautiful baby girl! Callie Lanae

Even with our joy of welcoming Callie to the family we ended the year on a sad note. Daddy was diagnosed with lung cancer in Nov. and never came home from the hospital after his Nov. 27th biopsy. He passed away on Jan. 11th, 2008. Above is the slide show we made for the funeral. It documents his love of life and his family. A month has passed already and we miss him so much.
